Meet the Canna Wise Team

Nicole Maymi Quiñones

Nicole Maymi Quiñones, LPN, MJ, or "Nurse Maymi", was born in Puerto Rico and has experience in Home Health Care, specifically with neonatal and pediatrics. She has worked as a nurse in Florida and Colorado.

Nicole has seen the benefits of cannabis therapeutics in herself and her family which prompted her to expand her knowledge into the science of cannabis. During her time in Colorado Springs, she met her partner Patrick Quiñones and they started Canna Wise Angels. They are cannabis consultants and educators helping guide patients and medical professionals through their cannabis journey and answer questions about the ECS, cannabinoids, terpenes, proper dosing, and much more.

Nicole is a member of the American Cannabis Nurses Association (ACNA) and the Cannabis Nurse Network (CNN). Nicole completed her Medical Cannabis Consultant Certificate Program through Cansoom and continued on to become an approved Cansoom Instructor.

Nicole's personal cannabis story: I, like so many people, thought of weed as just a drug for getting high and for lazy unmotivated people. I tried cannabis when I was younger and didn't really get it. Fast forward into my early adulthood and I decided to try it again, at the time I was having weight issues and was taking prescription pills including sleeping pills just so I would be able to go to sleep and calm down. After consuming cannabis again it allowed me to re-analyze my body and mind. I would feel an overwhelming sense of calmness, I was able to eat and even go to sleep. It took experimenting with the amount of cannabis trying to find the right therapeutic dosage for myself to find relief from chronic pains, PTSD, ADHD, along with a sleeping disorder. I went from taking multiple over the counter medicines and prescription medications to just using cannabis. Once I found the therapeutic dose I was able to manage my usage of cannabis to just once a day. It became a decompressor to help me get through a rough day and a reset for the next day.

In 2019, I became pregnant with my son, and based on all the taboo I stopped using cannabis because of fear of harming my baby. Very quickly on I noticed I became a different person without my medicine, especially with all the hormones from growing a baby. I known moms that consumed cannabis during their entire pregnancy and had healthy babies. I did research on " cannabis and pregnancy" or lack of and came up mostly empty. Then, I stopped eating due to morning sickness. I started losing weight while pregnant. So I decided to start to microdose myself with THC and CBD (1:1) gummies to see if it would help and it did! I was able to start eating a little and all though sometimes I was still a bit nauseous it helped with back pain and the growing pains that come with pregnancy. I also used THC/CBD cream for my back and feet, I immersed myself in all-natural remedies and plants to help with my pregnancy. I did not take prenatal, I did not go to the doctor, I thought of my ancestors and how they did it. I had all faith in the natural process.

My son was born a healthy 8 pound 3 ounces and 21 inches long. My son is hitting all his milestones early, advanced, and perfect! I was given pain medicine after giving birth but I choose not to take them because I was breastfeeding, I took a high CBD to low THC (5:1) ratio gummy instead. It helped with my postpartum pain and my mental wellness. If it was not for my medicine I do not think I would have been able to produce milk due to new mom anxiety. My medicine let me relax my mind to in which I was able to produce more milk. Now more than ever I am beyond passionate about removing the taboo on moms that use cannabis throughout pregnancy while breastfeeding or just as a daily medicine. I have seen firsthand how it helps not just me in my everyday life but how it helps my patients from having fewer seizures, managing their cancer symptoms, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, sleeping disorders, and beyond! I am a witness first hand on how incredible this plant is!
